Hi Navi,

I’d like to discuss the possibility of removing an Operator in training from the program and
sending him back to his originating department for making a vexatious Work Refusal.

Two weeks into the course, Mark Holland raised concerns about noise levels in the training
department, specifically the sound from server fans located behind him. For context, the
instructor for this course is our JHSC safety representative, and Mark’s classmate is the
Executive Steward for CUPE 7000.

Mark filed a safety complaint regarding the noise. Ron conducted a decibel reading in the
presence of the Safety Department, and the results confirmed that the noise levels are well
within WorkSafe compliance. The department attempted to explore alternatives with Mark,
such as rotating his seating position to reduce the impact, but after being informed of the
decibel test results, he responded with a hostile attitude toward the JHSC safety rep through
text messages.

Today, he has booked off, claiming a WorkSafe-related issue due to the noise.

Thanks,
Austen
