3/18/26, 9:53 AM Gmail - SUBJECT: Fire Code Violations — Server Rack Installation — 6800 14 Ave Burnaby, BC — OMC1 Control Training Room To my knowledge, no permits were pulled for this installation at 6800 14 Ave Burnaby in the past year. The BC Fire Code requires permits for installations of this type in occupied buildings. NFPA 75 requires that IT equipment be housed so as not to create hazards to occupants of adjacent areas. Two refrigerator-sized server racks operating with inadequate suppression, a missing containment panel, an unsealed ceiling penetration, and overloaded electrical circuits — in an occupied training room with students seated two feet away — does not meet this standard by any reasonable interpretation. SUMMARY | wish to draw particular attention to the vertical relationship between the missing server rack panel and the open ceiling penetration directly above it. The server rack with the missing containment panel sits directly below an unfirestopped ceiling opening. This creates a direct chimney path for heat, smoke, and flame into the floor above — which houses the main Skytrain Operations Control Centre for the entire Metro Vancouver transit system. A fire originating in this rack has an unobstructed vertical path into a life safety critical facility responsible for system wide transit operations serving hundreds of thousands of passengers daily. | am requesting that a fire inspector attend this site and assess the installation against BC Fire Code 2018 and applicable NFPA 75 and NFPA 76 standards. Photographs documenting all five violations are attached to this email. Visible screens in the photographs have been redacted. | am available to provide any additional information required. This installation does not meet code. It is in an occupied training room. It requires immediate inspection.
