Supporting recovery

Supporting injured workers in their recovery at work is good for employers and their businesses.
Having workers return or continue to work within their abilities keeps them connected to your
workplace and can minimize the disruptive impact of the workplace injury.

You and the worker have a duty to cooperate with each other and with WorkSafeBC to facilitate
timely and safe return to, or continuation of, work. This means:
e Contacting the worker and maintaining communication with them;
e Identifying suitable work, that, if possible, restores the worker’s pre-injury earnings; and
e Providing WorkSafeBC with information needed to support return to work planning.

If you regularly employ 20 or more workers and have employed the injured worker for at least 12
months prior to the date of injury, you also have an obligation to maintain the injured worker's
employment. The duty to maintain employment includes:
e Returning the worker to their pre-injury work or alternative work, or providing suitable work
depending on the worker’s functional abilities; and
e Making any changes necessary to the work or workplace to accommodate the worker, unless
providing the accommodation creates an undue hardship.
