Table 1 outlines the applicable exposure limits based on the 3dB(A) exchange rate for varying exposure time. There is no acceptable duration of exposure to over 140 dB(C). 4.3. Health Effects of Noise Exposure Exposure to noise can lead to noise induced hearing loss (NIHL). There are three types of NIHL: 1. Acoustic trauma a. Analmost instantaneous large loss of hearing caused by trauma to the inner ear from exposure to a sudden high level of noise or a physical blow to the head. 2. Temporary threshold shift a. When the ear is exposed to a loud enough level of noise to reduce the sensitivity of the hair cells in the ear. With enough time between exposures, normal hearing will be regained. Arcose Consulting Ltd. 000049
